Inspired by the fragments of Staffordshire pottery frequently found washed up on the banks of the river Thames. By the mid-1600s, slipware manufacture was well established in England, and by the late 18th century it was the tableware of choice. The distinctive slipware glaze was beautifully combed and marbled then finished with a clear lead glaze with iron inclusions, which gives the white slip its yellowish colour.
